Norman Hall

$0.00

Watch Hill, RI

Located on Block Island Sound, the master plan for this renovated historic stone house preserves the mature quality of the property while introducing elements to meet the new owner’s needs. At the front of the house a large planting of juniper and locust trees frames the entry court and cascades downhill to an expansive lawn. The planted bank conceals an underground parking garage and creates a foreground landscape in scale with the large house.

A long swimming pool off the west wing of the house captures ocean views to the southwest. Wood decking surrounds the pool, and in combination with the pool’s exaggerated length, complements the scale of the house while providing a contemporary counterpoint. A fence of wood and wire mesh enclosing the pool preserves outward views.

We selected new plantings throughout the site to integrate the designed landscape with the rugged coastal setting. We introduced large specimen trees to provide screening while enhancing the existing collection of mature evergreens.
