Buzzards Bay Overlook / Under Construction

$0.00

Buzzards Bay, MA

Situated in an expansive open landscape on Buzzards Bay in the quiet enclave of Nonquitt, the design for this new home was focused on simplicity.  The structures, which include a new house and barn, were sited to frame a central quad punctuated by a mature Locust tree that was preserved in the design. This gathering space, bookended by the entertaining barn and a large wood bench, is a well-used outdoor living area that offers respite from the frequent winds blowing off the water.  Low native stone walls define the water side of the home and help navigate the grade change between the home and the waterfront.

The planting design focused on a palette of grasses that frame the house and pathways, punctuated by native flowering shrubs.  A flush cedar boardwalk through a grove of Nyssa trees leads visitors from the parking area to the front door and recalls one of the structures found locally along the coastline. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2024.
