2016 American Society of Landscape Architects Boston Merit Awards

May 15, 2016

We are proud to announce the Boston Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects has recognized our Van Ness and Los Olivos projects with 2016 MERIT AWARDS.

THE VAN NESS, Boston, MA – LJLA designed 4 distinct terraces that created over half an acre of rooftop gardens on this mixed-use development in the Fenway neighborhood. Planted with a lush, woodland palette, the landscape both compliments the architecture and provides a welcome contrast to the urban context. A mid-tier planter wall spans the site to mitigate the elevation change between two of the terraces, providing a sense of scale and what jurors considered an “innovative” design solution.

LOS OLIVOS, CA –With the introduction of an organic vineyard and orchard, LJLA was able to transform a neglected agricultural property into a comfortable family weekend retreat. The jurors noted that bold design gestures, composed of reclaimed materials, and a restrained planting palette creates a balanced geometry that respects the surrounding agrarian environment.
