1330 Boylston Roof Terrace

Boston, MA

Project Description

Achieved within significant engineering constraints, the landscape design for a residential rooftop terrace in Boston was inspired by the nighttime glow of nearby Fenway Park. This context, rather than plantings or structure, provides the drama to animate the rooftop space, which centers on a shallow swimming pool. Planters filled with hardy grasses and plants help define seating areas. A translucent canopy shades the seating areas during the day and, at night, enhances the glow of the sky. This sparely appointed landscape manages to be beautiful by day and scintillatingly alive after dark.
