Pocomo Point

Nantucket, MA

Project Description

Located on a peninsula on the Island of Nantucket, the design for this property takes full advantage of the site’s panoramic harbor views. We located the main house at the crest of the slope and oriented it to optimize views in all directions. The entry drive sweeps through the indigenous landscape to arrive at a lawn punctuated by oaks and framed by seeded meadow grasses and flowering shrubs that blur the edge of the built and native landscape. The parking area and entry walk are composed of sculptural panels of salvaged granite and framed by the same introduced grasses.

An unexpected natural feature of the windswept site was an existing grove of sassafras trees. We carefully inserted a sculptural boardwalk into the grove to provide access the swimming pool and pool house that nestled into the slope. We oriented the pool to take in views of the town of Nantucket as well the tidal marshes closer to the site.
